Alstroemerias are a genus of flowering plants in the family Alstroemeriaceae. They all come from South America, but some have become naturalized in the United States. Alstroemeria tereticaulis may be native to Northern California and first grown for the garden there in 1835, but it has been flown as an ornamental plant all over the world ever since. The flower heads contain disk flowers and ray flowers at different heights, which is the typical Asteraceae family.

Gauge is not important for this crochet flower patterns project, but you will need a crochet hook appropriate to make firm tight stitches with your chosen yarn. I used a 1.5mm steel crochet hook (US size 8/Canadian & UK size 4.5) with DK (UK) – DK/Light Worsted (USA) – 8 ply (AUS) yarn.
